Overview: What is Trivia Battle?

Trivia Battle is a single-player quiz game your audience can join from their own device. Players answer questions as fast as they can — the quicker they answer, the more points they earn. A live leaderboard shows the top eight players, and all other attendees can follow their score and ranking on their own device.

Part 1: Getting Started

Before players can join, you need to turn Trivia Battle on for your session.

  1. Sign into the session as a Moderator and click Session Settings
  2. Click Enable/Disable Features
  3. Click the padlock icon next to Trivia Battle to activate it
  4. Return to the session and click Join Trivia Battle (Moderator) to open the game controls.

Note: Don’t see an option to unlock “Trivia Battle”? Contact support@conferences.io.

Part 2: Configure Timer & Create Questions

Setting up the Trivia Battle game requires two steps:

  1. Configure Timer: Choose how many seconds players will have to answer each question. You can set anywhere between 3 and 60 seconds. A shorter timer creates more excitement; a longer timer works better for harder questions. You can change the amount of time players have to answer the question at any time.
  2. Add questions manually one at a time, or upload a whole batch at once using a template file.

Option A: Create questions manually

  1. Click Create New Question
  2. Type in your trivia question.
  3. Enter the correct answer, then add the incorrect answer options.
  4. Set the point value for the question (must be more than 1 point).
  5. Click Save Question

Note: Points count down as time passes, so setting a point value of 1 won’t work — always use a value greater than 1.

Option B: Upload Questions in Bulk

This is the quickest option if you have lots of questions ready to go.

  1. Click Upload Questions.
  2. Click Download a question template and open the file.
  3. Fill in your questions and answers following the template format.
  4. Save the file when you’re done.
  5. Back in Trivia Battle, click Upload Questions and either click to select your file or drag it into the upload box.

Part 3: Displaying the Game

You have two options for showing the game on screen for your audience. Choose whichever works best for your setup.

Option A: Presentation View

Click Open Presentation View to launch the game display in a new browser tab. This tab shows the trivia questions and leaderboard and can be shared on a screen for your audience.

Option B: Live Content Slide (Recommended for slide-based presentations)

If you’re already presenting using PowerPoint, Keynote, or Google Slides, you can embed the game directly into your deck. See more information on Live Content Slides here.

  1. Go to Session Settings → Add Live Content → Download All Live Content Slides.
  2. Drag the Trivia Battle slide into your deck
  3. Make sure the Conferences i/o add‑in (Windows or Mac), or the Chrome extension is installed on the presenting computer.

Note: Before going live, test the game on your own device and then click Reset All Scoring & Players to clear any test data.

Part 4: Running the Game

Invite Players to Join

  1. Ask players to open the session and click Join Trivia Battle
  2. Players will then enter their name and select an avatar

Tip: Players can also join by scanning the QR code displayed on screen by clicking Show Onboarding Screen.

Play Each Question

Repeat these steps for each question in your game:

  1. Click Open Question to open the game moderator controls for the question
  2. Click Show Question Only to reveal the question and points a player can win, without starting the timer yet.
  3. Click Deploy/Start to show the answer options and begin the countdown. Players now select their answer on their device.
  4. Click Show Answer to highlight the correct answer and show how many players chose each option.
  5. Click Return to Leaderboard to display the updated scores for players who answered correctly.
  6. Click Close to return to the dashboard, then repeat these steps for the next question.

Note: The faster a player answers correctly, the more points they earn. Points decrease as the countdown timer ticks down.
