How to Map State-Specific Ethics from Other States to New York Ethics

New York has guidance that if an individual's principal place of business is outside NY, and they are licensed in that state, "an ethics course that is provided by any of the following will meet the New York state-specific Ethics requirement:

  • A NY State-registered CPE sponsor that is approved to provide ethics courses.
  • A NASBA-approved CPE sponsor.
  • A sponsor that is approved by the licensing authority of the state which is your principal place of business."

Because of this, organizations may wish to apply state‑specific ethics credits earned in another state toward New York Ethics.

In LCvista’s Qualifications setup, a Jurisdiction‑Specific Ethics requirement can be assigned to only one state at a time.  As a result, if a course is designated as meeting another state’s ethics requirement (New Jersey, California, etc.) and you also want those credits to count as New York Ethics, a manual credit adjustment is required.

Follow these steps to manually apply ethics credits from another state to New York Ethics:

  1. Navigate to Manage Training on the left panel of your LCvista dashboard.
  2. Search for the course for which you want to adjust credits.
  3. Update the credits to apply to New York Ethics for all participants, or adjust them at the individual transcript level as needed.
  4. Save your changes.

By completing these steps, you can ensure that qualifying state‑specific ethics courses are correctly recognized toward the New York Ethics CPE requirement.
