Getting Started

The outline below documents how to enable the LCvista integration with LinkedIn Learning.

Before beginning these setup steps, please ensure you have:

  • Put in a request with LinkedIn Learning to enable Certificate-based Completions (if you have not done so already). This is an account-specific setting accessible to LinkedIn Learning only, to notify Course Completions once the exam/quiz required for the certification is completed.
  • LinkedIn Learning will inquire about your LinkedIn Learning Account ID in order to process the above. This detail is accessible via https://www.linkedin.com/learning page (log in using an account tied to their enterprise license), and check the URL once the page has loaded, and the ID will be present in the form of ?U=XXXXXX (for example, https://www.linkedin.com/learning/?u=298798996)

Once LinkedIn Learning has enabled the above, you can begin setting up in LCvista. Please see below for a detailed outline on setup.

Setup

Step 1: Add the application within LinkedIn Learning Management Portal

Access your LinkedIn Learning Management Portal. Locate Settings and Integration. Click Access content and reports via API. Select Add application.

On the model for Add application, enter a Name and Application description. Ensure you have selected “Content” before selecting Next.

Step 2: Retrieve Client ID and Secret from LinkedIn Learning

Retrieve the Client ID and Client Secret from the application you’ve just created. You will apply these values in LCvista in Step 3.

Step 3: Add External Catalog Provider within LCvista

Access LCvista, find Integration Providers. Select the External Catalog Providers tab and Add Provider.

Specify LinkedIn Learning and Continue.

Step 4: Add Client ID and Client Secret

Enter Client ID & Client Secret and Save.

Step 5: Configure Reporting Integrations

In the LinkedIn Learning Management Portal, return to Settings and Integration. Select Configure reporting Integrations. Expand Configure xAPI and choose to Add integration.

Step 6: Enable xAPI Integration Setup

Include a name for your integration and populate the following fields with the values available within LCvista (see below). Then select Enable.

  • OAuth Server URL
  • Tenant Server URL
  • Client ID
  • Client Secret

Scope: can be left blank. Ensure Course Completions are checked

Step 7: Specify Topic Area Handling

For courses that are NASBA sponsored, and when chosen to load to LCvista, courses will be created with delivery method QAS Self Study and will map to their NASBA field of study and credit specified by LinkedIn Learning.

For courses that are not NASBA sponsored, and when chosen to load to LCvista, these courses will be created with a delivery method Interactive self-study and default to the NONE field of study.

Outside of this, your firm has an additional setting you can choose to enable.

Your organization will have the option to enable the 50-minute credit hour calculation, where, when specified, we will create non-NASBA courses with a NONE field of study and apply a credit value based on the expected duration supplied by LinkedIn Learning. The credit value supplied will use a 50-minute credit hour calculation based on expected duration. When this setting is enabled, courses not sponsored by NASBA will default to the NONE field of study and issue credit based on this 50-minute credit calculation.

Step 8: Syncing Content from LinkedIn Learning to LCvista

After specifying your preferred Topic Area Handling, proceed to the Content tab.

Upon initially accessing the Content tab, you will see the option to Sync Catalog.

Selecting Sync Catalog will prompt you to specify your preferred sync method: manual or automatic.

Automating a full catalog sync will mean that you are choosing to load all content offerings made available by LinkedIn Learning. Programs (and their corresponding sessions) will be created automatically when this setting is enabled. At the time of selecting to Automate the Full Catalog, you can specify which catalogs the programs should be added to, as well as add any custom tags at the time the courses are created.

Alternatively, you can review the courses available and choose to load them manually into LCvista. By specifying Manual Selection, you will be navigated to a list of courses available and can choose which to load into LCvista.

Your preferred sync method can be adjusted at any time via Reconfigure Sync Settings.

Note: When first syncing the LinkedIn Learning offerings for the first time, the process will take a few moments and you will see the following message on the Content tab: “Your courses are currently being loaded. Please check back in a few minutes.”

If you manually select LinkedIn Learning courses to load into LCvista, you can filter the full content list and select the courses to load. Once content has been selected, you will have access to the Actions menu, where you can either choose to “Load selected content” (content will be created and visible in Manage Training automatically). Or you can choose “Load and add to catalogs”, at which point you can designate which catalogs the content should be added to. Content loaded to catalogs will be immediately visible to your professionals.

To reconfigure your firm’s Sync Setting preferences, you can select this option at the top right of the Content tab. This will expose the Content Sync Selection modal to adapt your sync behavior.

Note, when you are switching from Manual Selection to Automatic:

All content made available by the provider will now be automatically loaded to your site without administrator review. There are 10518 courses that will be loaded automatically today, as a result of this change. This may take up to an hour when selecting this option for the first time. Select Continue to save changes.

Alternatively, when switching from Automatic to Manual Selection:

You are switching from an automated catalog sync to manual selection. New content from the provider will no longer be automatically loaded to your site. As a result of this change, you will need to review and choose which content to load on a manual basis moving forward. Existing events already loaded will remain available. Select to Continue to save changes.

Step 9: Sync Status

The final tab available to administrators from the LinkedIn Learning settings area is the Sync Status tab. This tab exposes the number of courses that have been made available by LinkedIn Learning, alongside those that have been updated or retired.

Step 10: Engage with LinkedIn Learning content in LCvista

Content synced and loaded into LCvista can now be added to catalogs, to learning plans, and assigned. LinkedIn Learning content loaded in this way will be visible across our standard reports (Programs, Session Info, Session records, etc.)

NOTE: LinkedIn Learning content must be launched from LCvista for the integration to process completions.

Step 11: Completing LinkedIn Learning Content and Tracking Certifications

This integration ensures that professionals completing LinkedIn Learning courses will have their status updated to "passed" in LCvista as they meet course requirements. For NASBA-sponsored courses, statuses update to "passed" only after professionals complete the course and pass the final exam.

Currently, LCvista cannot automatically issue LinkedIn Learning certificates upon course completion. However, organizations can choose to enable a setting that allows professionals to upload their LinkedIn Learning certificates via their Transcript.

This setting is located in Settings > User Experience > Allow Professionals to Upload External Certificates. When enabled, professionals can upload certificates to any passed session record lacking a certificate template.
