Understanding Group Assignments for Programs and Learning Plans

Group assignments in LCvista allow administrators to efficiently manage user enrollments in programs and learning plans. This guide explains the behavior of group assignments and what happens when changes are made.

Behavior When a User is Assigned a Program via a Group Assignment

  • Removing a group from a program assignment does not unassign users from the program. Instead, users transition to individual assignments.
  • Previous program assignments are retained for users even after the group assignment is removed.
  • If a user is removed from a dynamic group, the assignment remains. However, if a user is removed from a static group, they are automatically removed from the program assignment.

Behavior When a User is Assigned a Learning Plan via a Group Assignment

  • Unlike Programs, removing a group from a Learning Plan assignment will unassign all users in that group from the Learning Plan. If you want certain users to remain assigned, you must reassign them individually before removing the group.
  • If a user is removed from either a dynamic or static group manually or by applied filters, they are automatically removed from the Learning Plan assignment.
  • If a user has been assigned a Learning Plan via a group with a due date and they are moved to a new group due to applied filters, the due date from the previous group assignment is removed and replaced with the new assignment due date.

Understanding these behaviors helps ensure that user assignments are managed effectively, even as group compositions change.
