Overview
Administrators can now create their own Custom Widgets on the Dashboard. Unlike the standard widgets, which are pre-populated based on a user's Compliance and/or Learning data, Custom Widgets support fully freeform text, offering the flexibility to highlight firm-wide news, department updates, seasonal reminders, or anything else you'd like your professionals to see.
You are not limited to a single Custom Widget and can add as many as you need, and name each one to reflect its purpose (for example, "Firm Announcements" and "Compliance Team Updates").
Note: Custom Widgets do not currently support audience targeting. Once added, a widget is visible to all users who have that widget enabled on their Dashboard.
Permissions
Access to Custom Widgets follows the same permissions as other Dashboard customization features:
Users with the Default Administrator role have access by default.
Users can also be granted access individually through the Dashboard Layouts custom role.
Adding a Custom Widget
Navigate to Site Settings.
Select the Dashboard tab.
In the Available Widgets column, locate Custom Widget and drag it into either column of your Dashboard layout.
Each time you drag a new Custom Widget onto the layout, a new, independent widget instance is created, so you can add multiple Custom Widgets side by side or stacked, each with its own name and content.
Naming Your Widget
Once added to the layout, click into the widget's title to rename it. Choose a name that will help you and your team identify its purpose at a glance (for example, "Department Updates" or "Holiday Hours").
Note: Unique widget names must be used. A "Duplicate Widget Name" message will appear if another widget has the same name.
Editing the Widget Body
Click into the body of the widget to open the rich text editor; this will be the same editor used for the existing Announcements widget.
From here, you can:
Add and format freeform text (bold, italics, lists, etc.)
Add hyperlinks by highlighting your text, selecting the "#" option in the toolbar, and entering the URL
Positioning the Widget
Like any other Dashboard widget, a Custom Widget can be repositioned by holding your cursor over it and dragging it to the desired location, left or right column, and up or down within a column.
To remove a Custom Widget from the Dashboard, drag it back into the Available Widgets column on the right-hand side.
Saving Changes
The Save button will become active as soon as you make any change to your Dashboard layout, naming, or widget content. Be sure to select Save before navigating away, or your changes will be lost.
Use the Preview button to see how your Custom Widget(s) will appear to end users before saving.
