Overview
Smart Search provides an enhanced way to find programs in the Learning Catalog and Training areas of LCvista. It works alongside the standard search experience, allowing you to switch between Smart Search and standard search at any time.
Smart Search provides real-time suggestions and relevant program matches as you type, helping you find the training you need more quickly.
Using Smart Search
When Smart Search is enabled, a Smart Search button will appear in the search bar. Select the button to activate Smart Search. You can select it again at any time to return to the standard search experience.
As you enter a search term, a dropdown displays relevant information organized into the following sections:
- Suggestions — Displays related search terms. Select a suggestion to view results based on that term.
- Best Matches — Displays the programs that most closely match your search. Select a program to open its Preview page directly.
- Search instead for [term] — If Smart Search detects a possible typo or similar term, it may suggest an alternative. Select the suggested term to search using the corrected text.
Best Match Details
Programs displayed under Best Matches include helpful information so you can identify the appropriate program before opening it:
- Program Name
- Program ID
- Sponsor
- Program Type
- Field of Study (FOS)
- Credits
- Match source, such as Title or Tag, indicating why the program matched your search
Viewing Search Results
With Smart Search active, you can either select a program from Best Matches to go directly to its Preview page or view all matching programs in the search results table.
If you have the appropriate administrative permissions, opening a program from Smart Search provides access to the same program management options available from the results table, including:
- Edit Sessions
- Manage Attendees
- Program Sharing
- Program Equivalents
- Add Version or Latest Version, when applicable
Sorting Smart Search Results
Smart Search automatically ranks results by relevance, placing the programs that most closely match your search first.
Because results are relevance-ranked, the results table cannot be sorted while Smart Search is active.
To sort results using the standard table sorting options, deactivate Smart Search. Your results will reload using the standard search experience, where sorting is available as usual.
Access to Smart Search
Smart Search does not require additional User permissions. When Smart Search is enabled for your organization, it is available to all Users who have access to the Training or Learning Catalog areas of LCvista.
