Compliance: Carryover Credits

How carryover works:

Carryover credits are built into the system and calculated automatically, based on each jurisdiction's specific rules.

These calculations cannot be manually modified — there's no field or override to type a different carryover value directly into a jurisdiction's totals.

Common Scenario: New hires to your firm or recently onboarded firms often have incomplete historical transcript records. Without a full transcript history, the system doesn't have enough data to calculate the carryover it should be showing for the current period — so the carryover amount looks wrong or missing, even though nothing is actually broken.

Recommended workaround:

  1. Add an external course: Create a new external course entry titled something clear and searchable, such as Carryover Correction.
  2. Enter the correct credits and date: Enter the appropriate number of credits with a field of study and number of associated credits to align with the the correct jurisdiction category — the amount needed to bring that jurisdiction's carryover in line. Additionally, be sure that the completion date reflects a date within the compliance reporting period you need the carryover credits to apply to.
  3. Apply it to the affected jurisdiction only: Select Override Per Jurisdiction Credits option under the field of study to assign the course only to the jurisdiction that needs the adjustment. For any other jurisdiction listed on the user profile, set the credits to 0 so the correction doesn't unintentionally affect balances elsewhere.
