Understanding Adjustments in Rolling Reporting Periods

LCvista has multiple types of adjustments, and they behave differently when a user has overlapping reporting periods. An annual adjustment copies automatically to every overlapping reporting period. A reporting period adjustment stays only on the period where it was entered. Some situations call for both, so you may need to enter an annual adjustment and a reporting period adjustment for the same user.

Use this article to decide which type, or which combination, to enter, and to explain why an adjustment does or doesn't appear on a given reporting period.

Annual adjustments

An annual adjustment applies to a specific year, such as calendar year 2026. If multiple reporting periods overlap that year, LCvista automatically copies the adjustment to each of those reporting periods.

Example: A -20 credit annual adjustment tied to 2026 is entered on a reporting period of 1/1/2024 – 12/31/2026. The adjustment will automatically appear on every other reporting period that includes 2026, such as 1/1/2025 – 12/31/2027 and 1/1/2026 – 12/31/2028.

Reporting period adjustments

A reporting period adjustment applies to one specific reporting period only. It does not copy to any other reporting period, even if some of the dates overlap.

Example: A -20 credit reporting period adjustment entered on 1/1/2024 – 12/31/2026 stays on that period. It does not appear on 1/1/2025 – 12/31/2027 or 1/1/2026 – 12/31/2028, even though both partially overlap it.

Side-by-side example

The same -20 credit adjustment, entered on Period A, behaves differently depending on its type. The annual adjustment is tied to the year 2026.

Period A: 1/1/2024 – 12/31/2026Entered hereEntered here
Period B: 1/1/2025 – 12/31/2027Also appears hereDoes not appear
Period C: 1/1/2026 – 12/31/2028Also appears hereDoes not appear

All three periods include 2026, so the annual adjustment appears on each one. The reporting period adjustment appears only on Period A.

Why they work differently

This behavior is intentional. Reporting period adjustments are typically used for one-time situations, such as a short-term leave or a penalty credit. LCvista therefore keeps them on a single reporting period.

Key takeaways

  • Annual adjustments are tied to a specific year and automatically appear in all reporting periods that overlap that year.
  • Reporting period adjustments are tied to a specific reporting period and remain only on that period.
  • Need an adjustment on multiple periods? A reporting period adjustment must be entered separately on each reporting period.
