Understanding Microsoft Edge Immersive Reader Limitations with SCORM Courses

Microsoft Edge's Immersive Reader, also known as Reading Mode, is a browser feature designed to enhance the readability of text-based content by removing unnecessary formatting and distractions. However, this feature is not controlled by LCvista or SCORM Cloud.

When you encounter the message "Reading mode is not supported on this site," it indicates that Microsoft Edge cannot display the page in its reading format. This is because Immersive Reader is primarily intended for articles and simple webpages, not for complex content like SCORM courses.

SCORM courses often incorporate HTML, JavaScript, interactive elements, and multimedia, which may not be compatible with Edge's Reading Mode. Here are some important points to consider:

  • LCvista: We do not have the ability to enable or disable Edge's Reading Mode.
  • Microsoft Edge: The browser itself determines if a page can be displayed in Immersive Reader.
  • Course Content: The way a SCORM course is developed can affect its compatibility with Reading Mode, but there is no universal SCORM setting to enable it.

This limitation is due to browser compatibility, and any improvements would need to come from the course developers or updates to Microsoft's browser functionality.
